EXPLORE

San Vito Chietino

San Vito Chietino is a little hill that extends up to the sea, facing the Adriatico on the trabocchi’s coast where you can observe a vast horizon which goes from the sea to the Appennini. Gabriele D’Annunzio has set here his famous novel “Trionfo della morte”, defining this city the “broom’s town”.

A place of great impact is the Belvedere Guglielmo Marconi, a panoramic point, a terrace facing the sea with the trabocchi on one side and the Majella and the Gran Sasso on the other one. On the other hand, not too far from the marina of San Vito, you can find the D’Annunziano hermitage, which was the amorous and leterary refuge for Gabriele D’Annunzio who stayed there during the 1899 summer.

Now it is used as the Gabriele D’Annunzio museum house and it can be visited on request.

Trabocchi's Coast

The Trabocchi’s coast is a trait of Abruzzo’s litoral, it’s about 40km long, it’s located between Ortona and Vasto, it takes its name from the discattered presence on the trabocchi’s litoral of ancient fishing machine placed on the palafitta dated back to the 18th century.

Some of these trabocchi have been transformed in restaurants, while others are opened to visitors. The best way to admire them is to take a walk on the famous “Via Verde”, a cycle path immersed in nature, near the sea, which covers the entire coast.

EXPLORE

Punta Aderci Natural Reserve

Punta Aderci natural reserve, with the homonymous promontory rock, safeguards one of the most suggestive and spectacular traits of the Abruzzo’s litoral. It was the first reserve to be established in the coastal area of Abruzzo (1998).

The reserve extends for about 285 hectares of clear thin sand which wears easily away into the crystal clear sea, ideal for canoe itineraries and scuba divings. Above the beach it is possible to traverse a 3 km panoramic path in height (20 metres above the sea level), which allows you to find out, by bike or walking, a unique landscape, carachterized with pine groves on the sea, wide vallets and traits of mediterranean spot.

At the information point of the reserve, on the punta penne beach, opened during all summer, it is possible to rent canoes to discover the coast or mountain bikes to explore the place between the dunes and the various paths.
